We believe the Quartix system is a vital tool for the efficient running of our rescue and recovery business.
Tracking and breakdown recovery
Operating from two sites in Birmingham and Coventry respectively, Beeches Recovery provides 24-hour recovery and breakdown assistance for cars and light commercial vehicles across the West Midlands.
Established for some thirty years, the company operates a fleet of more than thirty specialist vehicles, and works with a wide range of motoring organisations – including Allianz Global Assistance, Inter Partner Assistance, Call Assist & LV= Britannia Rescue – as well as local and national vehicle dealerships, accident repair centres and private motorists. It has both ISO 9001 and PAS 43 quality assurance accreditation.
Improving fleet operations
Beeches Recovery also runs a car transportation service, which specialises in the transport of classic and prestige vehicles to and from every part of the United Kingdom.
Car recovery service Beeches Recovery is using the award-winning Quartix system to improve their fleet operations and reduce fuel expenses across more than 30 tracked vehicles. The company is employing many of the system’s core features to enhance their service and bolster customer satisfaction.
“We believe the Quartix system is a vital tool for the efficient running of our rescue and recovery business,” says Amar Nandra, director of Beeches Recovery. “We can’t imagine being without it.” Prior to installing the Quartix system into its fleet, the company did not have a method of locating its vehicles in real-time. Ultimately, this made it very difficult for staff to know where to send vehicles.
“The Daily and Weekly Route Charts let us check where our drivers travel to and from. The ability to see which routes have been taken is vital for making key decisions on resource allocation as well as ensuring swift responses for our customers.”
Essential features boost fleet efficiency
Today, using the system’s detailed Live Tracking functionality and built-in postcode search, Beeches Recovery can more reliably reach their customers by knowing which team operative is closest to a particular job. This also allows them to consistently inform customers on estimated times of arrival, and has transformed the fleet’s efficiency on the road in terms of both performance and safety. “These features are essential when operating a time-critical business such as ours,” explains Amar Nandra.
To this end, the company also finds the extended reports useful for maintaining these standards: “The Daily and Weekly Route Charts let us check where our drivers travel to and from. The ability to see which routes have been taken is vital for making key decisions on resource allocation as well as ensuring swift responses for our customers.” In addition, unnecessary vehicle mileage is reduced because of more optimised routing. Invoicing is also made easier thanks to accurate mileage reporting.
Beeches Recovery makes good use of the system’s driving style monitoring to examine their drivers’ performance and risk profile, as Amar Nandra explains: “Our drivers undertake in-house driving assessments and we review their driver-style performance as part of the appraisal process. It is also an important factor for us with regards to the environment as our resource allocation is now more efficient. As such, a decreased fuel spend is another benefit of monitoring driving styles and encouraging increasingly productive driving: “Our fuel spend is a significant proportion of our budget, so anything which lessens that bill is invaluable to us.”
Maintaining safe transport standards
Furthermore, maintaining safe driving standards throughout day-to-day operations is a large consideration for the company, as Amar Nandra clarifies: “Given the inherently dangerous nature of the transport industry, we view it as critical to minimise our risk profile. Identifying bad practices means we can properly manage our fleet drivers to ensure their on-road activity is safe at all times.” By extension, safer driving means the overall conditions of each vehicle are far less likely to be damaged by wear and tear in the long run.
The fleet managers at Beeches Recovery have found the in-house support to be just as useful as the system itself: “Whatever query we have, the Quartix support team is always fantastic to deal with,” Amar Nandra elaborates. “Nothing is too much trouble and they will always get back to you promptly and efficiently.”
Although Beeches Recovery looked at several companies for vehicle tracking, Quartix was chosen for its competitive pricing and “excellent” feedback from companies which already had experience with the system. Amar Nandra is similarly satisfied with the Quartix system: “It offers us exactly what we want.”
