HR Generalist Alys Smith speaks this week to Kirk Foster, Quartix Sales Executive, about how finding an unexpected career path can lead to a rewarding work environment.
Tell me a bit about yourself
I was born in Boston, Lincolnshire before moving to Derbyshire and then to Wales about 15 years ago. I spent 3 years in college training to be a chef and have been manager of a local restaurant and wholesale bakery. The transition to Quartix wasn’t an expected career move, but having a young daughter who I spend my weekends with, a 9–5 job was key.
How do you find it working for Quartix?
Working for Quartix is great! I enjoy my job and the daily challenges it poses. The management are really supportive in helping us reach both individual and company targets as well as being encouraging when it comes to personal development and natural progression within the role.
How would you describe the Company culture?
Quartix has a great company culture—all the staff are friendly and it feels like everyone knows each other and this is evident through the annual summer/Christmas parties where we all get a chance to let our hair down and socialise.
What’s a day in your life like?
A day in the life of Kirk? Well I like to get to work a little early, read through my emails and arrange my tasks for the day so that I can prioritise what needs to be done and then I will get on with it. At the end of the day, me and a couple of work buddies (Jay and Dean) will head over to the gym before heading home where I can be found shouting answers at the TV while watching The Chase (I will apply one day).
